Cannons delivered a mesmerising finale to their inaugural European tour at London’s Heaven, infusing the venue with a pulsating surge of Indie-pop after upgrading to the larger space upon selling out at Lafayette. Yet here too at Heaven the band promised a sell out show, and from start to finish the entire night came through with astounding performances.

The night commenced with the sublime sounds of opening acts Nina and Radio Wolf (aka Oliver Blair), crafting an atmospheric prelude of synth-infused waves and heavy guitar undertones, setting the stage ablaze for the main event. As fans of Nina’s older synthwave work, we were pleasantly surprised by the grittier work presented by the duo, and especially impressed by their opening number “Tokyo Cowboy,” which really set the mood for a night of pulsating and dark beats.

NIna and Radio Wolf were an amazing opener for the night, but now for the main event. As Los Angeles-based Cannons emerged, greeted by a thunderous applause from their devoted followers, the stage came alive with a dynamic digital backdrop, synchronising with each melodic wave of their opening song ‘Heartbeat Highway’ from their latest album. From the onset of their performance, it was evident that an unforgettable evening was unfolding.

Frontwoman Michelle Joy’s heartfelt connection with the audience added an intimate dimension to the spectacle, with Ben Hilzinger on drums and of course icons Ryan Clapham on guitar and bassist and keyboardist Paul Davis. Tracks like “Loving You” and “Shadows” transitioned, punctuated by upbeat moments with “Bright Lights” and “Hurricane,” ensuring a continuous surge of energy throughout the night. New songs from their latest album danced along with classics, and while we missed oldie “Strangers,” there were so many bangers from their recent albums to make up for it with flying colours.

Speaking of – the well-fashioned lighting and set design served as the perfect backdrop, enhancing the ambiance of each composition and elevating Cannons’ already spellbinding performance. And one can’t forget the fashion and joy – Michelle Joy dripping in liquid silver and happily and ethereally dancing all night long.
